The town of Peru will hold a special town meeting

June 2.

PERU – Town Clerk Vera Parent informed selectmen Monday night that a public hearing for the comprehensive planning grant will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, at The Rockemeka Grange Hall.

Bill Hines, chairman of the Comprehensive Planning Committee, and John Maloney of the Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments in Auburn will be present to answer questions.

There will be a special town meeting on June 2 to accept a comprehensive planning grant and raise matching funds for it.

Road Commissioner David Gammon reported progress on the Ridge Road where he has most of the trees cut and hopes to finish ditching by the end of the week. Some blasting may be needed to keep water out of the road. He said motorists may expect delays during the road construction.

Gammon presented a paper showing a schedule for his vacation days, which included 12 paid days. Some town employees get only 10.

Selectman Jim Pulsifer motioned to have 10 paid days across the board. It did not receive a second.

Selectman Andy St. Pierre motioned to compromise with 11 days for all town employees, and it passed. The 11 days will be New Year’s Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day and Veterans Day, and two each for July 4, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Parent will have to wait until the next town meeting to have the 11 days as it was passed at the recent town meeting for her package to include 10 days.

Building permits were approved for a deck at the Worthly Pond Store.

Other permits approved were to Harold Packard for replacing roof, dormers and siding, Mike Mickeriz for a garage, and Perry Virgin for a deck pending verification of width of deck.

Nancy Knox’s request for the use of Rockemeka Grange for Saturday, June 14, for County Extension was approved.

Bids were opened for the Rockemeka wood cook stove and it was awarded to Joy Turner for $326.

Selectmen approved work on the Deshon Cemetery to proceed as the board had previously voted $2,100 for work on cleaning, leveling and repairing stones.
