OCALA, Fla. – Raymond M. Meserve, 80, of Ocala, Fla., formerly of Auburn, passed away on May 7, in Florida.

Born in Springvale, he moved to Florida 15 years ago from Auburn. He was the first full-time State Farm Insurance agent in Maine and served the Lewiston-Auburn area for 27 years.

He was a member of Central Baptist Church in Ocala and was a World War II veteran. He was recognized by the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Council in 1981 for valiant service during the liberation of Nazi concentration camps by the International Liberation Conference, U.S. Department of State and also honored by the French Government in July 2001 for participating in the liberation of France.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Flynn Meserve of Ocala, Fla.; a stepson, Timothy Flynn of Ocala, Fla.; a stepdaughter, Deborah Ferris of Greenville, S.C.; brothers, Robert T. Meserve of Kennebunk and Richard M. Meserve of Harrington; sisters, Ruth Kay Keene of Auburn and Olive Allen of Clearwater, Fla.; and five step-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Virginia Edmonds Meserve.
