1922 – 2003

LEWISTON – Sophie L. Mickalide, 81, formerly of 29 Railroad Alley, Lewiston, died Saturday, May 10, at d’Youville Pavilion, following a long illness.

She was born in Lewiston, Feb. 5, 1922, the daughter of Anastas and Calliope (Foundo) Mickalide, she had been a resident of this community all of her life.

She was a Civil Service employee for the U.S. Government, having many different job capacities throughout the country and in Japan. Following her retirement in 1974, she continued working part-time jobs, including the Literacy Volunteers of America.

She was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, AARP, and Modern Woodmen of America.

She enjoyed being a friend to many people and socializing where there was music, especially jazz. She loved attending parties, especially those she hosted for her pets’ birthdays. Those who knew her will remember her stories of her world wide travels.

Throughout her life’s journeyies, her heart has held home with family and friends as her most precious gifts.

Survivors include three nephews, William, Mark and James; seven nieces, Angela, Rosemarie, Cynthia, Brenda, Alexina, Helen and Patricia; several great-nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.

She was predeceased by one sister, Alexina Mickalide; and four brothers, James, Louis, Arthur and Harry Mickalide.
