ORONO – Kyle Brault slapped a pair of hits for two RBIs in the nightcap of a doubleheader to protect the University of Vermont from being swept by the University of Maine, (5-1, 1-2) in men’s baseball action Saturday.

Steve Gambale doubled down the right field line in the sixth inning of the opener for the Black Bears (37-15) to break the 1-1 deadlock. Brett Ouellette singled later in the inning to cushion Maine with another two runs.

Black Bear center fielder Mike Livulpi was perfect at the plate in the first game, going 3-for-3 and scoring a run. Greg Norton pitched six fine innings for his seventh win of the season.

Jeff Dixon, who pitched in the nightcap for the Catamounts (31-12), remains undefeated with his ninth win of the season.
