A prison sentence of 58 years was given to the man who stabbed the Bates College student (May 9). When he gets out he will be in his 70s.

What he did was wrong and he should be punished for it. I’m not sure it would have been such a stiff sentence if it had been a stabbing on the city streets.

I remember a student who went to Bowdoin College and strangled a girl he was involved with. He went to prison for five years.

My daughter served on a jury that found a man guilty of killing his girlfriend’s toddler and he went to jail for 5 years.

Where is the justice?

What about the Norway man who sexually molested children for years and was given a 7-year sentence?

If, whenever someone kills someone, they are given 58 years, I would say yeah, but that is not so.

If the roles of the killer and victim were reversed, would the sentence have been 58 years?

I hope someone takes the time to take a close look at the way this trial was handled. I know I have my questions.

How was the college involved?

Something smells fishy.
