FARMINGTON FALLS – Registrations are being accepted for a 2C Benefit Tournament to be held at 1:30 p.m. June 1 at the Sandy River Golf Course. 2C is a beginner child or a skilled child. A beginner may be 5 or 15 years old, but definitely a beginner. A skilled player is considered to be one who has played a lot. The skill level of child can be judged if there is a need. Each four-person team must have either one adult and one skilled child with two beginners or two adults and two beginners. The tournament cost is $10 per person, with proceeds to benefit The Zone Youth Center in Phillips. Swim sign-ups

FARMINGTON – Registration for a spring session of swimming lessons at the University of Maine at Farmington’s Health and Fitness Center will be May 19 to 23 at the fitness center. Any students, Levels 3-7, planning to participate in Farmington Recreation Department’s Sumner P. Mills Swim Program will have to take their lessons during this session, which will be May 28 to June 19, due to a summer reconstruction project on the center’s pool. This summer, the Recreation Department will only be able to offer lessons for children who will be in Levels 1 and 2. Classes during this spring session will be Monday, Wednesday and Thursdays. Enrollment is limited. The fee for this program is $25 for members of the fitness center and $40 for nonmembers. The town of Farmington will contribute $20 towards the cost of this program for residents and nonresidents alike. Michaud agent

Congressman Michael Michaud has announced community office hours for Franklin County. Matt Dubois, his constituent services representative, will be available Tuesday, May 20, at the Farmington Community Building on Middle Street from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Dubois will also be available from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the Jay Community Building in the Jay High School/Middle School complex.

FARMINGTON – The Mount Blue Garden Club summer program begins with a walk through Flint Woods at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 20. Flint Woods is on upper Anson Street across from Bonnie Woods. Those attending are reminded to bring a box supper and a lawn chair to meetings. Desserts and drinks will be provided. Allagash program

FARMINGTON – Dean Bennett, a professor at the University of Maine at Farmington, will present “The Allagash Waterway: A Conservation Ethic” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, in North Dining Hall of Olsen Student Center at UMF. The program is offered by the Western Maine Audubon Society. The author of several books exploring and explaining the value of nature and wilderness, Bennett will use slides and discussion to define the Allagash as a symbol of a conservation ethic. With a master’s degree in science education from the University of Southern Maine and a PhD from the University of Michigan, Bennett has devoted his professional life to teaching and writing in the fields of science and environmental education. Program organizers say his concern for human relationships with nature and his advocacy in wilderness preservation is a hallmark of his published works. Firemen’s meeting

KINGFIELD – The Franklin County Firemen’s Association will hold its May meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, at the Kingfield Fire Station. There will be a regional radio meeting including a presentation by the radio dispatch coordinator. There will be a discussion to update the cost for the current Fire Fighters II school. Refreshments will follow the meeting along with a drawing for door prizes. All firefighters and interested persons are invited to attend.

ATV safety

WILTON – An ATV safety training program will be held 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 31 at the Wilton Fish and Game Club on Route 2. People can register by calling 897-2740. Students ages 10-12 who wish to take the program must be accompanied by a parent or guardian during the full program. Authorized instructors are donating their time for the program. A hunter safety training program also will be offered from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 7 and 8 at the Wilton Fish and Game Club. For more information or to enroll, people can call 897-2740.
