1913 – 2003

CLAREMENT, N.H. -Verna Frances Day, 89, of Main Street in Claremont, N.H., died Sunday, May 18, at her home following a long illness. She was born in Bethel on June 27, 1913, the daughter of Frank Albert Sr. and Thirza (Hickford) Gibson and had been a Claremont resident since 1965, moving here from Auburn.

She received her schooling in Bethel and attended Business School in Concord, N.H. On Dec. 24, 1933, she married Parker Kimball Day in Gilead. While in Maine, Verna was employed by Pineland in New Gloucester and the Chickadee Restaurant in Turner. After moving to Claremont she was employed by the Sullivan County Nursing Home as a dietary food supervisor for 10 years until her retirement in the mid-1970s. While employed at the nursing home, Verna took part in a radio program that discussed dietary issues. She also worked as a cook for Cote’s Restaurant and A&W, both in Claremont. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Samuel Ashley Chapter.

Members of her surviving family include her husband of nearly 70 years, Parker K. Day of Claremont, N.H.; a daughter, Dawna Antonivich and her husband, Mitchell, of Charlestown, N.H.; a son, Steven Day Sr. and his wife, Wanda, of West Unity, N.H.; five grandchildren, Verna Day, Jeanette Day, Steven Day Jr., Scott Antonivich, Brian Antonivich; five great grandchildren, Ashley Antonivch, Nicole Antonivich, Angelique Day, Abigail Joslin, Krista Gorey; a sister, Roberta Pevear, of Exeter, N.H.; a brother, Frank A. Gibson Jr., of Bethel; and several nieces and nephews.

Two sisters, Jeannette Kimball Clough and Marie Saunders Bernard, predeceased her.
