BIDDEFORD — Miss Maine Scholarship Pageant officials announce the 67th annual Miss Maine Scholarship Pageant will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, May 23, and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 24, at the Biddeford Theatre.

Preliminary competition will be Friday night with the top nine contestants competing for the title of Miss Maine 2003 Saturday night. The pageant will have 17 contestants from around the state as follows:

Melissa Babin of Fort Fairfield, Rachel Carlson of Gray, Meg Cerullo of South Portland, Jenn Chabot of Acton, Elizabeth Edgecomb of Limestone, Lauren Grosso of South Portland, Elizabeth Hamilton of Cape Elizabeth, Sarah Kelly of Rockland, Erica Loftis of Lewiston, Amanda Ludwig of Washington, Michaela Lunn of Sabattus, Melody Ray of Ripley, Michelle Russell of Lincoln, Heather Spear of Topsham, Tahsha Sweet of Howland, Michelle Violette of Madawaska and Erica Wonder of Bath.

Contestants will compete in four phases: interview, talent, evening wear and swimsuit. Each contestant will also discuss her chosen platform, a social or community issue of concern to herself and society at large.

The winner will be awarded $5,000 in scholarship funds for college or graduate school education. Additional scholarships of more than $5,000 will be awarded to runners-up and special award winners.

Miss Maine will be eligible to compete for the Miss America title in Atlantic City, N.J., in September.
