RUMFORD – Police are looking for the driver of a tan four-door car that reportedly was involved in a hit-and-run incident Monday at Hannaford’s on Waldo Street.

Sgt. George Cayer said that at 6:09 p.m., the father of a 16-year-old girl reported that she had been sideswiped earlier that day by a tan four-door car with a single occupant.

“She said she was walking in the Hannaford’s parking lot when she was struck in the left knee by a vehicle entering the lot,” Cayer said Friday. “The driver either failed to see her or failed to yield.”

The youth, who lives on Somerset Street, was taken to the emergency room at Rumford Hospital for treatment.

“We don’t believe it was an intentional incident because the operator of the vehicle parked and walked into the store,” Cayer added.

Officer Peter Casey is investigating.
