WELD – Members of a Weld school group kept their eyes open for possibilities, and they found just what they needed.

Recently the Weld Parents, Teachers and Friends was trying to find a way to install a message board in front of the school for school and community events. The cost was greater than the group’s treasury.

At the same time, Dr. Jan Roberts was renovating his office on Routes 2 and 4. He had removed his message sign and did not plan to reinstall it. Weld Elementary School teaching-principal, Arline Amos, asked Roberts to donate the sign to the project.

He did.

Following construction by volunteer Dwight Amos, with a top board created by Sign Works of Farmington, Weld parents and students Sunday erected the sign in front of the school.

Bill Rogers, Rob Martin, Mike Kersey, Richard Doughty and Alex Nering did the heavy work, supervised by Judy Rogers, Cheryl Martin, Candy Kersey, Naomi Doughty, Dot Nering and Amos.

The sign contains a plaque in memory of Aidan Edwards, a Weld kindergarten student who recently died. It is flanked by one tree given by Weld residents in memory of Aidan and one to honor all the other students in their growth.

The sign’s first message announced Fine Arts Night, which celebrates the schoolchildren’s talents. Community groups that wish to display a message may phone the school at 585-2333 or Amos at 645-4437 to have the children post the message as part of their ongoing community service to Weld.

When school is out, the groups may contact Dot Nering at Weld General Store, 585-2231, to have messages posted.
