1911 – 2003

RUMFORD – Madeline French, 91, of Canton, formerly of Dixfield, died Wednesday afternoon May 21, at Rumford Community Hospital. Prior to residing at the Victorian Villa Boarding Home, Canton, she lived with her daughter and son-in-law in Dixfield.

Born in Morristown, N.H., Dec. 15, 1911, a daughter of Charles and Florence (McDaniels) McGoff, she graduated from high school in Morrisville, Vt. and attended nursing school.

In addition to being a homemaker, she was employed at Keyes Fibre in Waterville. She was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Wilton. She was predeceased by her husband, Carroll French who died April 30, 1975.

She leaves one son, David French and his wife, Nilda of St. Albans, Vt.; two daughters, Pauline Welch and her husband, George of Dixfield and Patricia Wood and her husband, Carl of Ocala, Fla.; 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, one great great-grandson and anticipating the births of three great great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Marjorie Gardner and Pauline Parlin.
