1911 – 2003

NASHUA, N.H. – Donald J. Nathan Sr., 91, of Mont Vernon, died May 20, at St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua.

Born in Lewiston, Oct. 3, 1911, the son of Julius and Olivette (Beauchea) Nathan, he was educated in Lewiston and Rumford schools.

For many years he had managed the family clothing store in Rumford. He married Alice Larmey of Rumford in 1937. He had served on the local Red Cross Disaster Relief Committee and was a past exalted ruler of the Rumford Lodge of Elks No. 862.

In 1953 he moved to Boston, Mass., where he was employed in management capacity by department and discount chains until he retired in 1974. He was a long-time member of the DAV National Commanders Club.

Survivors include a daughter, Sheryl O. James of Littleton, Mass.; three sons, Donald J. Nathan of Brockton, Mass., Douglas J. Nathan of Frederick, Md. and David W. Nathan of Jamaica Plain, Mass.; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his wife in 1987, after 50 years of marriage.
