BOSTON – The Rev. Jon Mark Vermilion graduated from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary on May 10 with the doctor of ministry degree in ministry to post-modern generations.

Vermilion, a native of Lynchburg, Va., is married to Robin (Gill) Vermilion and they have two children, Mason and Addison. He is pastor of the United Baptist Church of Lewiston.

Vermilion’s doctoral thesis is titled “Whose God Is God?” and examines the salvation claims made within the five major religions of Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam and Orthodox Judaism. The thesis contains personal interviews with religious leaders within each tradition.

The primary focus of the work is to reveal the uniqueness of Jesus Christ in salvation among the religions explored. Vermilion hopes to have the thesis published in the coming months. The work contains a study guide titled “Exploration 21” and will be used within his parish and as a seminar.

The focus of the seminar is to engage religious seekers interested in discovering the different salvation claims with special emphasis given to the uniqueness of Jesus Christ. Those interested in contacting Vermilion about his thesis or the seminar can do so by calling the United Baptist Church of Lewiston at 782-0821 or through e-mail at ubcinmaine@wmconnect.com.
