I have been reading with interest lately all the letters to the editor regarding a proposed parking lot and nature center at Thorncrag Bird Sanctuary.

I am not a member of the Stanton Bird Club nor have I ever been. However, I do live on Montello Street across from the bird sanctuary.

On any given weekend, many cars line Montello Street as well as Highland Spring Road. I believe this is an accident waiting to happen. In fact, there recently was an accident near Thorncrag’s main entrance.

The traffic rounding the corner of Montello Street near the main entrance while pedestrians are trying to cross is a hazardous situation. Something needs to be done.

Whether a nature center is needed, I don’t know and I really don’t care. But I do feel that a parking lot is desperately needed to get the vehicles and pedestrians off that corner.

I understand the point of view of those who do not wish to cut trees, but I feel as if the public safety is in jeopardy.

It all comes down to sacrifice. Do we sacrifice a few trees or someone getting hurt. The choice is ours.

I vote for the trees.
