PERU – Selectmen Monday directed Town Clerk Vera Parent to report to them regularly on delinquent taxpayers, who will be getting letters and calls prompting them to pay.

Selectman Andy St. Pierre said the situation of nonpayment needed to be addressed.

Selectman Jim Pulsifer said the town had a minimal amount of people who don’t pay property assessments on time.

Also Monday, selectmen discussed the status of road ownership.

The old Route 108 connecting Canton and Peru is now known as Knox Road, but it has not been determined if this is a private or town-owned road. Pulsifer said it needed to be researched because Peru shouldn’t be maintaining private roads.

Though Road Commissioner David Gammon was working on Ridge Road and was not present, selectmen discussed having him look at places where there were probable junk yards and report back to them.

Selectmen discussed how much work was available around the town office and the Grange Hall for a community service work project. It was determined that there was sufficient work available and it could be done when the town office was occupied so the personnel could supervise.

Selectman Kathy Hussey said not having an animal control officer is becoming a problem. Selectman Norman DeRoche asked her to call Marsha McKenna and ask her if she would consider the job.
