1930 – 2003

LEWISTON – Violet Irene Ward of 8 Lynn Street, Lewiston, died Sunday, June 1, at St. Mary’s Hospital.

She was born in Fayette on Sept. 4, 1930, the daughter of Charles and Fern Ritchie.

For 33 years, she worked at Bates Mill and was later employed at Marden’s Discount.

She achieved a later goal of receiving a diploma from Lewiston High School. After serving as a Sunday school teacher at United Baptist Church in Lewiston, she was pleased to serve as Church School Director for 11 years.

Her family was her joy. She attended nearly every family event and enjoyed the annual reunion. She often joined her brothers and sisters at local bean suppers. She enjoyed sale shopping, playing cards with her children, and catching up on all the family news by telephone. She and her husband spent many happy hours watching and feeding the squirrels and birds in their backyard.

She is survived by her husband, Irvin Ward Jr. of Lewiston; one son, Kenneth of Maryland; two daughters, Linda Gupta of Massachusetts, and Sharon Bean of Auburn; three brothers, Richard of Florida, Carroll of Sabattus, and Victor of Auburn; two sisters, Barbara Hatfield of Auburn, and Doris Franklin of Massachusetts; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Her elder son, Irvin III, predeceased her in 1980; and also two brothers, Charles and Floyd.
