AUGUSTA – Buzzy Cyr found the back of the net three times in the fourth quarter to lift No. 6 Mt. Blue to an 8-5 victory over No. 3 Cony in an Eastern Maine lacrosse quarterfinal.
The Rams (11-3) lead by one at the half, and each team scored a goal in the third quarter.
Sam Rains started the fourth quarter with a goal to tie the contest at 4-4. Cyr added a pair of goals to give Mt. Blue a two-goal cushion. He assisted the Cougars’ seventh score and notched the eighth himself to lock up the win.
Goalie Derek Taber made nine saves for the Cougars (12-2), while Joel Dumont denied 13 shots for the Rams.
Baseball Mt. Ararat 3, Leavitt 2
TOPSHAM – Jim Ouellette’s bunt single in the eighth inning scored the winning run as No. 4 Mt. Ararat defeated No. 13 Leavitt 3-2 in Eastern Class A preliminary round baseball playoff action Tuesday afternoon.
The Hornets (6-11) were up two runs going into the sixth inning before the Eagles (13-4) responded with a pair of runs to knot the game and send it into extra innings.
Chad Schrepper belted a double to lead the Hornets.
Jesse Snider led off the Eagles’ eighth inning with a walk and eventually moved over to third on a wild pitch and a fielder’s choice. Ouellette subsequently beat out a bunt to plate Snider for the win.
Softball
Oak Hill 9, York 2
WALES – No. 6 Oak Hill slapped three consecutive hits with two outs in the first inning to set the tone for a 9-2 victory over No. 11 York in Western Class B preliminary round softball.
Pitcher Julie Lizotte started the three-hit rally. Danielle Sargent and Jill Lizotte followed. Sargent’s triple was the big hit for the Raiders (12-5) in a three-run inning.
The Wildcats (8-9) scored single runs in the third and seventh innings. Lyndsay Woods chipped in with a double.
while Kellie LaJoie ripped a triple for York.
