1900 – 2003

LEWISTON – Goldie R. Isaacson, 102, formerly of 30 White St., Lewiston, died on June 5 at d’Youville Pavilion in Lewiston. She was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on December 25, 1900, the daughter of Isaac and Fannie Resnik. She was educated principally in the schools of that city.

On Nov. 14, 1922, she married the late Harris M. Isaacson. He died on October 23, 1983. Their children are Philip M. Isaacson of Lewiston and Marilyn I. Simonds of Auburn, both of whom survive. Their grandchildren are Ellen Simonds Epstein of Auburn, Gail Lee Simonds of Brighton, Mass., David Howard Simonds of Sedgewick, Elizabeth Ann Isaacson of Providence, R.I., Tomas Adam Isaacson of Boulder, Colo., and John Andrew Isaacson of Cumberland, each of whom survives. Their great-grandchildren are Matthew David Deschaines, Andrew Thomas Lefebvre, Ariel Leah Epstein, Sarah Catherine Lefebvre, Asher Isaac Simonds, Eli Samuel Simonds, Julia Elizabeth Isaacson, Owen David Simonds, and Jacob Daniel Isaacson. They also survive.

As a young woman, she was active in the affairs of the sisterhood of the former Congregation Beth Jacob. In her later years she participated in the rituals of the Order of the Eastern Star. A contemplative person, she read widely, supplementing her formal education and acquiring a vocabulary that delighted her children. She taught them to read and, vicariously, observed their formal education. She had a fine eye for design, color and harmony, and translated her thoughts about them into a quiet and dignified home. She was modest about her interest in the arts and quietly traveled, often alone, to Boston to attend the ballet and theater. They were signal events in her life.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her parents and by her brother, Max Resnick.
