1936 – 2003

TOGUS – Robert S. Gray Sr., 66, a resident of Back Street, North Monmouth, died early Monday morning, June 9, at Veterans Administration Hospital, where he was a patient since April, following a 10 year long battle with Leukemia.

He was born Oct. 20, 1936, in Portland, the son of Walter and Elizabeth Lovejoy Gray. He attended Farmington High School, Farmington. He entered the U. S. Army, during the Korean conflict, serving in Georgia and Germany before being discharged. He was employed at Carlton Woolen Mills and Tex.-Tech of North Monmouth before going to work for Bath Iron Works at Bath and also worked as a school bus driver for the town of Monmouth.

He was a jack of all trades, enjoyed farming, working the land with his tractor, his favorite past times were playing cribbage, rabbit hunting, dancing and sitting and socializing with family and friends. He was a member of the American Legion Post 204.

He is survived by, three sons, Robert Gray Jr., and his companion Debbie Brown of Lisbon, Calvin Gray and his wife Amanda of North Monmouth and Lester “Amos” Gray and his wife Christina of Poland; two daughters, Gail Bohlen and her husband John of Edmond, Okla., and Brenda Bickford of Buckfield; three sisters, Marion Hutchinson and her husband Richard of Wilton, June Hurd of Pinellas Park, Fla., and Patty Morse and her husband Kelley of Wilton; 10 grandchildren, Erica Gray, Isaac Gray, Jaylyn Herard, Jessica Gray, Derick Gray, Katherine Gray, Jonathan Bohlen, Sean Bohlen, Justin Gray and Adam Real; a former wife, Maxine Gray Latuscha of Monmouth.

He was predeceased by a son, Lawrence “Andy” Gray; and his parents, Walter Gray and Elizabeth Gray Hood.
