AUBURN – A Lewiston woman was in serious condition Tuesday night after the car she was riding in and a second vehicle collided on Route 4.

Jacqueline Leger, 51, was being treated at Central Maine Medical Center for multiple injuries suffered in the 6 p.m. crash. Her husband, 52-year-old Lynn Leger, was treated at the hospital and released, according to a nursing supervisor.

Police said Lynn Leger was driving north on Route 4 and turning into Roy’s All-Steak Hamburgers when his Cadillac was struck by another car traveling in the opposite direction.

The Ford Mustang, driven by Lori A. Kyllonen, 37, of Auburn, plowed into the passenger side of Leger’s Cadillac, police said.

When police first arrived at the scene, Kyllonen was out of her vehicle. She was examined for shoulder pain but was otherwise uninjured.

The Legers were conscious but trapped in their vehicle, police said. Once they were freed, both were taken to CMMC.

It was not known Tuesday night what caused the cars to collide. The investigation was being headed by Auburn police Officer Jason Adickes.

While fire and rescue crews treated the victims of the collision, police worked to control traffic around the crash scene.

“It was commuter traffic on Route 4,” Adickes said. “It was pretty busy out there.”

A southbound lane was closed for about an hour as police investigated and crews cleaned up the wreckage.

The Legers’ Cadillac was totaled in the crash. The front end of Kyllonen’s Mustang was extensively damaged.
