RUMFORD – The Pulp and Paper Heritage Museum committee will meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, June 12, at Rumford Public Library. Everyone is invited.

History workshop

BETHEL – The Bethel Historical Society’s Regional History Center will hold a Maine Archives and Museums Regional Workshop focusing on genealogical and historical research on Saturday, June 14. The workshop will begin at 9 a.m. with registration including a $10 fee. Jean Hankins, PhD., of the Otisfield Historical Society, will begin the workshop with a presentation on historical research.

She will be followed by Ben B. Conant of the Paris Cape Historical Society, who will present information on doing genealogical research. The final presenter will be James Henderson, PhD., of the Maine State Archives, who will provide information on doing research at that facility.

The workshop will adjourn for a brown bag lunch provided by each participant with the society serving beverages. Following lunch, society Director Stanley R. Howe will, depending on the weather, lead a historical tour of important local sites or deliver a slide lecture on historic Broad Street. Anyone wishing to learn more about historical and genealogical research is welcome.

Bubble contest

MEXICO – Saturday, June 14, children ages 12 and under across America will compete to see if their Dubble Bubble measures up – literally.

All Wal-Mart stores nationwide, including local stores, will hold the 4th Annual Dubble Bubble National Bubble Blowing contest, where children compete to see who can blow the biggest diameter bubble gum bubble.

All bubbles will be measured using an official Dubble Bubble Bubble meter.

From this preliminary national contest, six finalist from across the country will be identified to participate in the national finals. These six children will compete for the grand prize of a $10,000 U.S. Savings Bond and a $5,000 donation in the winner’s honor to Children’s Miracle Network.

Bible school

RUMFORD – Vacation Bible School activities are planned for children from kindergarten through sixth grade for the week of June 23-27 at the Rumford United Methodist Church on Linnell Street. Children will enjoy Bible stories, singing, recreation, worship and crafts.

The theme, “Lighthouse Kids,” will teach about shining the light of God’s love in our world. Classes will meet from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. All children are welcome. Pre-register by June 14 by calling Dee at 369-0746.

Winners named

DIXFIELD – The Dixfield Town Office has announced the winners of the American Liberty Elm Trees, which were raffled at the Annual Town Meeting.

Winners are Jon Holmes, Alvin Larsen, John Morang, Carol Bernard and Barbara Coolidge.

The elms will become part of the town’s Project Canopy chaired by CEO Jay Bernard of Dixfield.

The trees will be delivered to the lucky winners by Bernard.
