BANGOR – Dirigo Girls State will hold its 57th session at Husson College during the week of June 15 to 20.

This year, they have registered 400 delegates. All delegates are selected from girls who have completed their junior years in high school.

They will role-play in mock government sessions to learn more about how town, county and state governments are designed to operate in the state.

Speakers during the week will include Sen. Susan Collins, Gail Malone from the District Attorney’s office in Bangor, Dr. Bill Manning from Arizona and Gov. John Baldacci.

Primary elections will be held Wednesday morning and state elections on Thursday will decide who will be elected governor of Dirigo Girls State. There will be panels to represent the Maine lobbyists and the legislature.

The week will culminate Friday with an afternoon inauguration and reception. On Friday evening, the graduation and awards program will be held when the two delegates selected to attend Girls Nation in Washington, D.C., will be announced
