AUGUSTA – Mid-State College’s Department of Continuing Education announces a course to train students to become Certified Nursing Assistants.

Career opportunities continue to be excellent for Certified Nursing Assistants. According to the state Department of Labor, a career as a Certified Nursing Assistant is one of the fastest growing occupations in the state. It is projected that there will be almost 12,000 positions in Maine by the year 2008, with a growth rate of approximately 20 percent a year. A career as a CNA provides a living wage (average of $8 to $10 an hour), benefits and opportunities for advancement without requiring a college degree.

Mid-State College will offer a CNA course from July 7 to Aug. 20. The course will be held from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday on the Augusta campus, 218 Water St. Clinical times may vary. Only 10 students will be accepted.

The program covers all state requirements for the student to receive certification. The cost is $690 and is all-inclusive. Payment is due upon registration.
