1930 – 2003

LEWISTON – Charlene A. Black-Dixon, 73, a resident of 103 Arcadia Ave., Lewiston died Friday morning at Ste. Marguerite d”Youville Pavilion following a lingering illness.

She was born in Dixfield Jan. 19, 1930, the daughter of Lamont and Christina Scott Philbrick. Educated in Lewiston schools she was a graduate of Lewiston High School with the class of 1948, also graduating from the University of Maine Portland-Gorham Campus in 1973 receiving her B.S. Degree in Education.

She was a devoted Lewiston Public School Teacher, also teaching at Holy Family Catholic School and the Wallace Catholic School at St. Patrick’s retiring in 1982.

In 1958 she married Josef Wachnik who predeceased her. In 1962 she married James W. Black who also predeceased her. She was also predeceased by her son, Christopher Wachnik. On May 14, 2000 she married Harry W. Dixon Jr.

She was a member of The Androscoggin Retired Teachers Association, The Maine State Retired Teachers Association, The Polish American Club where she served as treasurer of both the Men’s and Women’s Club, also serving as president and secretary.

A devoted member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Lewiston where she served as treasurer for many years. She was a Past Vestry member and choir member. Her hobbies included helping children learn, knitting, and home making.

She leaves her husband of three loving years, Harry W. Dixon Jr. of Lewiston; three stepdaughters, Patsy Ruch of Loves Park, Ill., Carol Barnhart of New Branfels, Texas, Carol Corson of Skowhegan; a fosterchild, Allyson Trala of Calif.; three stepsons, David Black of Beloit, Wisc, James W. Black Jr. of Calif., and David and his wife Gwyn Dixon of Whitefield; plus several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
