CHESTERVILLE – An 18-year-old Farmington man received critical injuries Friday after his car struck a utility pole.

Mark Lescault was first taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington then flown by medical helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston where he was listed in critical condition at 3 p.m., a CMMC spokesperson said. He was later flown to Maine Medical Center in Portland and was listed in critical condition there about 10:45 p.m., a hospital nursing supervisor said.

Maine State Police Trooper Scott Dalton said two vehicles were heading north toward Farmington on Route 41. One driven by Kristi Iverson, 18, of Chesterville passed the other driven by Lescault, he said. The two are friends, Dalton said.

No contact was made in the pass, Dalton said, but when Iverson looked back she saw Lescault’s Honda Civic shoot across the road and hit a telephone pole.

Lescault’s car hit the soft shoulder on the north side of the road, Dalton said. He over corrected onto the road and the car shot across to the opposite side, rolled over, struck a pole and landed in the ditch.

Dalton said Lescault had crawled from the vehicle. Iverson reported the crash and went back to stay with him.

Maine State Police reconstructed the accident, Dalton said, which remains under investigation.
