MEXICO – The bumpy dirt parking area of the Region 9 School of Applied Technology will be smooth and paved soon after Tuesday’s board meeting.

Board members plan to award the contract for the work at their meeting, which begins at 7:30 p.m. in the conference room of the River Road school.

Director Deborah Guimont said the parking and truck-driving area at the rear of the school has already been done. The board was waiting for the final closure on the purchase of the school building to go ahead with paving the front parking lot. That was completed May 21.

Work on the lot will likely begin soon after July 1, the beginning of the school’s fiscal year. Guimont said the school has about $45,000 for the paving job.

The board will also welcome two new members. Ken Robbins, a bus supervisor at SAD 21, has been appointed to the position formerly held by Tim Hanson. Former Region 9 board member and current SAD 43 board member Betty Barrett was also appointed to a three-year term.

Other agenda items include action on the one-year contract for adult education Director Nancy Murphy and on a contract with SAD 43 for providing hot lunch for Region 9 students.
