BRUNSWICK – Outstanding high school students from around the state were awarded the Phi Beta Kappa Association of Maine Academic Achievement Award in recognition of their scholastic achievement.

The award is given to recognize outstanding high school seniors and to encourage the study of liberal arts by Maine students.

High schools throughout Maine were asked to select the “outstanding senior who is going on to higher education and who has demonstrated intellectual curiosity and achievement beyond the classroom.”

Sixty high schools participated in this first annual event. Award winners in the local area high schools include: Leavitt Area High School, Kira Beeckel; Lewiston High School, Kellie J. Pelletier; Lewiston Regional Technology Center, Jennifer M. Robustelli; Maranacook Community High School, Reid Dominie; Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School, Colleen M. Curran; and Poland Regional High School, Kearah Westerman.
