SOUTH PARIS – With the bitter taste of an early-season loss to Cole Farms still in its mouths, Bessey Motors didn’t need much else for motivation.
Bessey’s offense supplied plenty of runs as 6-foot-4 intimidating hurler Corey Tielinen quieted Cole Farms’ bats to give Bessey a 10-2 Zone III victory.
“Last time we came out flat, I think we took them for granted. But this time we came out with a little bit of vengeance,” assistant coach Joe Oufiero said. “Tielinen did a great job throwing strikes and he kept his pitch count low and got ahead of batters. And our offense just found a little spark tonight.”
Garrett Olson set the tone early for Bessey Motors, leading off with a triple to center field. Jeff Austin then drove in Olson for his first of four RBIs on the day with a single to left and eventually scored on Chris Henderson’s infield out.
Tielinen’s run support was consistent throughout the contest. In the third inning, Steve Cummings drew a walk and later scored on a ground ball by Olson to give Bessey a 3-0 lead.
Cole Farms put a run on the scoreboard in the top of the third inning. Josh Foster reached on a throwing error by Bessey’s third baseman on a bunt. Following hits by Louie Bernardini and Johnny Aceto, Foster was standing on third. On a botched pitchout attempt on a squeeze play, Foster swiped home to bring the score to 3-1.
Bessey answered when Joe Baker led off the home-half of the third with a triple to deep left field and then scored on an Aceto’s wild pitch. Henderson then drew a walk and raced to third on a hit and run. He later scored on Cummings’ ground ball.
Through the next three innings Bessey Motors combined for six hits and drew four walks to blow open their lead at 10-1.
“We have a good hitting lineup,” Oufiero said. “We struggled early on, but we’ve started to hit the ball really well during the last couple games. We came through with key hits and some back-to-back hits as well that really helped.”
Olson took the mound in the seventh inning to close the door on Cole Farms. Olson walked Josh Foster, who scored on a two-out double by Shane Corcoran. But Olson got Aceto to ground out to short to end the game.
