1913 – 2003

LEWISTON – Irene J. Caron, 90, formerly of 66 Riverside St., died Friday, July 4, at Ste. Marguerite d’Youville Pavilion where she resided for the past four years.

Born in Berlin, N.H., Feb. 20, 1913, a daughter of Joseph and Rose Anna Valliere Thibault. She was educated in Berlin, N.H., and Springvale, schools.

On July 14, 1933 she married George Caron at St. Mary’s Church in Lewiston. Mrs. Caron was a devoted homemaker to her family. With an empty nest, she went to work as a sticher in the shoe industry in Lewiston-Auburn for the following 25 years until her retirement in 1975. Mrs. Caron was a member of Ss. Peter & Paul’s Parish.

She leaves her husband of 70 years, George Caron of Lewiston; a daughter, Georgette Duval and husband Raymond of Brunswick; a daughter-in-law, Donna Caron; five grandchildren, Monique Smith, Colette Levesque, George W.R. Duval, Nicole Allred, and Jennifer Murphy; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Marie Anne Forgues of Lewiston; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her son, (Joseph) Irenee Caron; four sisters, Merilda Parent, Lauria Campeau, Natalia Williams, Lena Morin; and one brother, Alfred Thibault.
