BRUNSWICK – The Maine Women’s Network hosted the 2nd annual Celebration of Amazing Women on Thursday, June 19, with a buffet lunch and program at Bowdoin College in Brunswick that drew more than 140 women from the Androscoggin, Midcoast and Portland chapters as well as many other areas of Maine.
Women in business and women involved in the business of life were treated to an opportunity to learn more about each other through networking, exhibit displays and a silent auction.
Patsy Wiggins and Kathleen Alfiero of Lighthearted Productions, co-mistresses of ceremonies, asked the women to reflect on the question: “What is the one thing you are doing when you feel most alive?”
That question was a segway to the message of the keynote speaker, Karen Gordon Mills, founding director of Solera Capital in New York City and wife of Bowdoin College president, Barry Mills.
She encouraged women to redefine success, not in financial terms but by following their passion. She presented a message to have a vision for a realistic and attainable goal and to follow through with excellence.
Founded in 1995, the purpose of Maine Women’s Network is to create a professional environment for women to become more effective in the business world through education, networking and common resources.
The monthly luncheon/dinner meeting features a program related to professional and personal topics presented by a guest speaker. The organization has more than 200 members consisting of women of all ages, educational, social and economical backgrounds who own or work at businesses in the state of Maine.
