Superintendent may be appointed Monday

RUMFORD – SAD 43 board members are expected to act on the appointment of a new superintendent when they meet on Monday.

The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. in library of Mountain Valley High School.

Following interviews of three semifinalists by the Personnel Committee last week, a finalist was chosen to go before the entire board. The man chosen will replace Danny Michaud who left the position June 30 after serving for eight years.

Board Chairman Arthur Boivin said all three are well-qualified. He is hopeful that the new district leader will begin work in August.

Also on Monday, a part-time family literacy director will be appointed to begin coordinating a $25,000 grant received from the Maine Family Literacy Initiative. The new director will work to ensure that families with preschool children are provided assistance in reading and writing if necessary.

A math specialist for the upcoming school year will also be hired.

Other agenda items include acceptance of resignations from a math teacher and a guidance counselor at the high school, several appointments to educational technician and extra-curricular positions, and a update on Maine School Management insurance programs.

Closed sessions are expected to discuss a personnel matter and to continue talks on bus driver/custodian union negotiations.
