1928 – 2003

Norway – Viola T. Giles, 75, of Norway, died Saturday at Stephens Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Rumford Feb. 3,1928, the daughter of Alfred and Lillian Rainville. She attended school in Rumford, then moved to Cape Elizabeth and worked as a nanny, returning to graduate from Norway High School in 1947.

In her younger years, she worked at Barjo’s, the telephone company and in the shoe shop. For almost 40 years she operated a daycare in her home. She loved gardening, the outdoors, going to camp, and boatrides on the ocean.

She atended the Second Congregational Church, and when her children were younger, she was active in both the Girl and Boy Scouts.

On March 18, 1948, she married Samuel C. Giles.

Survivors include her husband of Norway; a son, Sam of Norway; three daughters, Sheila and her husband Bob Preo of Norway, Diane Giles of South Paris, and Dawn and her husband John Fritz of San Diego, Calif.; a sister, Jeannine Gauthier of Worcester, Mass.; three sisters-in-law, Joan and her husband Robert Newell, Jackie and her husband George Chaisson, and Sandra Baker; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a brother, Larry Rainville.
