BETHEL – The Bicycle Coalition of Maine will host a Bike Ed – Road I course for bicyclists who wish to gain a better understanding of how to ride safely in a variety of situations. The course will be offered during the Maine Bike Rally at Gould Academy from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, July 11. Cost is $50 for members and $60 for others.

The nine-hour class includes learning how to perform a bicycle safety check, on-bike skills practice, effective pedaling and bike handling and crash avoidance techniques. Students will gain confidence and learn about riding legally and safely.

The Maine Bike Rally, co-hosted by the Bicycle Coalition of Maine, the Casco Bay Bicycle Club, the Merrymeeting Wheelers, the Western Maine Pedalers and local Bethel businesses and organizations, will take place July 11 to 13 and offers nearly 30 off-road and on-road rides from 10 to 100 miles.

Camping, food, all rides, entertainment and a T-shirt are included in the price of $90 for adults and $35 for children 6 to 15. Children under age 6 participate free. Bethel region residents can participate in the rally free due to Local Rider Sponsorship by L.L. Bean.
