FARMINGTON – An Italian Night Supper will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, at the Trinity United Methodist Church on Route 2. Sponsored by church’s Men’s Club, it will feature all homemade foods. It will be $6 per person.

Firefighter group

NEW SHARON – The next Franklin County Fireman’s Association will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, at the New Sharon Fire Station. All county firefighters and interested persons are invited to attend.

There will be a program presented by the local fire department as well as refreshments and a door prize drawing.

Delegate to speak

NEW VINEYARD – The Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, in the Historical Room. Daniel Lightbody, a delegate to Boys State, will talk about his experience at the Maine Maritime Academy. All are welcome. The New Vineyard Historical Society Room will be open Tuesdays from 1 to 3 p.m. during July and August.

Hiker to speak

RANGELEY – The Rangeley Region Historical Society will hold its annual meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, at the barn. There will be reports and election of officers. The speaker will be Bill Eddy, a local former Appalachian Trail hiker. The public is invited and refreshments will be served.

Healing history

FARMINGTON – African-American Calvin Earl will give a concert and lecture from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, July 18, in Nordica Auditorium at the University of Maine at Farmington. In “The Gifts from My Ancestors,” Earl invites his audience to experience America’s first original music created by the African-American slaves and examine the oral history in the music, the art of storytelling, singing and dancing. Earl has given one-man performances at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center for the Arts, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and at many universities. Earl writes, “In the concert you will experience America’s priceless heritage of music and oral history created by the people who were enslaved in this country; learn how they created an original music that enabled them to secretly communicate with each other, teach their young, record their history and heal their pain.” The public is welcome to attend this event sponsored by the Upward Bound Program at UMF. There will be no admission charge, but donations will be welcome.

‘Love Letters’

WELD – The American Legion Auxiliary Post 203 of Weld will present “Love Letters” at 7 p.m. Sunday, July 20, in the Town Hall. The play, by A. R. Gurney, stars Annabelle Banton and Ron Ashworth. This play is in two acts with a 15-minute intermission. Refreshments will be served. The admission is $5 at the door.
