LIVERMORE FALLS – Town Manager Alan Gove has proposed several cost-saving measures for Treat Memorial Library, including possible user fees and deposit to use the auditorium.
Gove noted that he had not reached the target savings of $6,840, but had come up with about $5,640.
Most of it would be by reducing the hours charged to the building by the town’s custodian – from 15 hours to 10 – a savings of $3,840.
Gove also suggested reducing the expenditures for office supplies for the library by $1,000 and reducing phone charges and other utilities by $800.
Several other potential savings were indicated in an energy audit done by Central Maine Power but most, such as replacement of the furnace, would require large capital outlays.
He proposed that users pay to use the library’s downstairs auditorium. He said that would pay for utilities, cleaning and trash. He also recommended a $200 security deposit, which could be returned, depending on conditions in which the auditorium was left.
When Gove made his recommendations, the three selectmen present agreed to table a decision until all five members were present at the Aug. 4 meeting.
In other business, several appointments were made. Appointed to various town positions were: Faith Nichols as deputy tax collector, registrar of voters, general assistance administrator and to a three-year term on the Sewer Committee.
Dawn Young was named deputy tax collector and excise tax collector. Brenda Medcoff will be code enforcement officer, Ken Mitchell plumbing inspector and Wayne Atwood animal control officer.
Charles Fullerton was named to a two-year term on the Board of Appeals, with Richard Hoisington having a one-year term. Clayton Putnam also will serve a three-year term on the Sewer Committee, and Veronica Pillsbury was named to the Planning Board.
Residents are needed to fill positions on the Planning Board, the Board of Assessment Review, the Board of Appeals, the Cable Advisory Board and the Ambulance Advisory Board.
The board also approved a $35,000 loan for the Skateboard Park from Skowhegan Savings at 2.5 percent interest.
Acting Chairman Bernal Lake signed the ballot for the Maine Municipal Association and the board authorized Gove to sign forms for the proposed Downtown Project.
Also approved was having selectmen’s packets available for the press on the Friday prior to a Monday meeting with extras available at the Town Office.
