LIVERMORE – Billie Gammon, Livermore’s resident storyteller, will be honored during her 87th birthday party at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, in the North Livermore Baptist Church. All are welcome to come hear Gammon’s latest neighborhood stories.

Birthday cake and punch will be shared at 6:30 p.m. in the church basement. A committee of friends is sponsoring the birthday treat.

Following refreshments, everyone is welcome to go upstairs for a historical treat: stories about four community buildings in North Livermore. One will be the Payson Smith School, a two-room school that was where the Town Office and fire station are now. The general store and post office operated by the Tenney Family also will be remembered. Coolidge Hall, a large two-story structure, which served as a high school, apartment, Masonic Hall, and banquet and dance hall, will be included. The fourth building will be the North Livermore Baptist Church, built in 1848 and renovated in the 1960s.

The birthday committee is suggesting that guests bring a handwritten note for Billie, in lieu of gifts and printed cards. Donations toward the cake and punch may be made at the party.

Gammon has shared her stories in past years. In 2001, she remembered her first year in Livermore in 1935, teaching at the Payson Smith School and boarding with the Babb family. Last year, she recalled North Livermore as it was in 1941.
