SUMNER – The Maine Department of Transportation plans to conduct bridge work for approximately six weeks on Routes 140 and 219.

According to Everett Barnard of the DOT’s Bridge Maintenance Section, the work will replace the wearing surface, or top layer, of the bridge deck on the East Sumner Bridge.

The bridge carries those two routes over the east branch of the Nezinscot River at their junction in East Sumner.

Alternating one-way traffic will be controlled by stop signs on either end of the bridge.

The wearing surface protects the rest of the bridge deck and bridge structure from water and winter road salt.
