LEWISTON – The Franco-American Heritage Center at St. Mary’s has received support from Hannaford Supermarkets.
Lewiston store manager Michael Labbe and Auburn store manager Tim Bryant presented the center with a check for $5,000 recently as a community service project.
Major renovations are taking place inside and outside the former St. Mary’s Church to create a performance hall, heritage museum, learning center and French library. It will be a multi-cultural, multi-purpose, community facility that will host numerous events, concerts, films and other cultural happenings.
The center board is working to reach a goal of $4.5 million to complete the project. It is estimated that by December the facility will reopen even though the construction will not have been completed. Work will be ongoing for a few more years, but the center will operate and it will be available for rental.
