LEWISTON – City officials say they have reached a tentative deal on property just south of Oxford Networks’ planned Lisbon Street development.

Councilors will discuss a proposed deal with FHP Engine Services’ owner Dick Lepage in executive session Tuesday night before their regular meeting, according to City Administrator Jim Bennett. Bennett said he expects them to vote on the deal during their regular meeting.

“I just need an opportunity to brief them on what we are proposing and how we got there,” Bennett said.

In May, city and business leaders unveiled their plan to revamp the city’s southern gateway along Lisbon Street. According to plans, the city would join developers Stanley Sklar of the Franklin Property Trust and businesses Oxford Networks and Northeast Bank in redeveloping the block of buildings surrounded by Lisbon, Maple and Canal streets.

FHP Engine Services is at Lisbon and Maple streets.

Plans call for three new office buildings, new sidewalks, buried utilities and a parking garage on the block. The deal would bring between 200 to 300 jobs to the area and could be complete within three years.

Councilors are scheduled to begin their executive sessions at 5:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers.

Their regular meeting is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.

Bennett said councilors would meet in four other executive sessions Tuesday night before the regular meeting. Councilors are scheduled to review labor negotiations with a new city union and with the fire department. Bennett said he expects to put the labor discussions on the council’s agenda for the Aug. 19 meeting.

Bennett said he will brief councilors on land negotiations for three other projects.

“We need to be further along on before we put those on the agenda,” Bennett said.
