This should be the last week of major delays on Court Street in Auburn, according to engineers.

City crews are scheduled to do the final paving on the road this week, capping more than two months worth of work.

“We still have more to do in the area, as far as finishing up the sidewalks and curbs,” City Engineer Steve Ranney said. “There might be crews doing some cross-trenching work as well. But the major paving should finish by the end of the week.”

The Court Street work has been part of the city’s federally mandated storm sewer separation project. The city had originally timed the project to coincide with a state paving project. That state project has been delayed for a year. State crews are scheduled to repave the road next summer, upgrading the pavement and the roadway.

Meanwhile, drivers on Minot Avenue outside of downtown Auburn may encounter two knots of traffic this week as state road contractors begin paving work. Emmie Merrill, Maine Department of Transportation resident inspector, said crews will begin paving operations between Hackett Mills Road and Lower Road in Minot this week. That will involve grinding down the existing pavement, digging culverts and repaving the road. Traffic should be down to one lane for the duration of the work, and flaggers will be directing traffic.

Work on that section will take several weeks, he said.

“They’re just getting started, so we don’t know how fast they’ll be able to go,” Merrill said. “They should be in that spot for about a month.”

Tree-cutting crews will continue working along Minot Avenue toward Auburn. Those crews will be closing lanes at various places, he said.
