Society to host railroad program

BRIDGTON – The Bridgton Historical Society will hold a lecture by Duncan Mackiewicz about the Narrow Gauge Railroad at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, at the society’s museum on Gibbs Avenue.

A video will be shown. The society has many artifacts and a display.

Museum hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m.

Book sale in Casco

CASCO – The Casco Public Library’s annual summer book sale will end at noon Tuesday, Aug. 12. The traditional end-of-season, fill a brown bag for a $1 sale will be Thursday, Aug. 7, and Sunday, Aug. 10. Books will be on specially marked tables. The library will supply the bags.

Book-sale hours are the same as regular library hours: Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The library is on Route 121 in the village. Handicapped parking is available in front of Oxford Bank. For more information, phone the library at 627-4541.

NORWAY – Larry Glatz will speak on Norway author Sylvanus Cobb Jr. at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9, at the Norway Historical Society on Main Street. Cobb lived from 1823 to 1887. For many years he wrote stories for the New York Ledger. For more information, people may phone 743-5309.

Sweden history tour

SWEDEN – The Sweden Historical Society’s summer history tour, “Original Sites in Sweden and Their Adaptive Uses,” will be led by Richard Lyman. This is a chance to discover the charm of a small New England village and to learn how the villagers have saved and recycled many of the original buildings since 1813. Library book sale

WEST PARIS – The West Paris Library will hold its annual book sale from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 9, on the library’s front lawn on Main Street. Donations of books are welcome and appreciated, and may be left at the library from 1:30 to 6 p.m. Monday and Friday or from 1:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays. Proceeds from the sale benefit the library and its activities. The sale is sponsored by the Friends of the West Paris Library.

Spinning, weaving

BRIDGTON – Spinners and Weavers Day will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10, at the Narramissic Homestead in South Bridgton. Many different types of loom and wheels will be on display. People may try their hand at spinning and weaving. For more information, phone 647-8272.
