William E. Harnden committed two violations within four days.

PARIS – A convicted sex offender with a history of violating the terms of his probation will serve the next two years in jail.

Oxford County Superior Court Judge Thomas Humphrey sentenced William E. Harnden, 52, of Lisbon Street, Lewiston, to two years behind bars. He was serving four years probation under a January 2000 conviction on two counts of unlawful sexual contact with a girl under the age of 14.

Harnden violated his probation June 17 when he wrote a message asking for sex on a bathroom wall in Mr. Paperback in Lewiston. Four days later, he violated probation again when he solicited sex from a 17-year-old girl on June 22.

Harnden, a former resident of Dixfield, was sentenced to five years, all but four months suspended, and four years probation for a series of molestations against the same girl dating back to 1996.

After serving time for his 2000 conviction, Harnden was picked up on his first probation violation, for having contact with the girl at Mountain Valley High School in Rumford. He received a 30-day sentence for that violation.

Court records show Harnden received treatment for being a sexual predator beginning in May of 2000. It is not known whether the treatment was continued.
