GRAFTON TOWNSHIP – Grafton Notch State Park Manager Jon Metcalf returned to work from vacation Monday only to learn that vandals had targeted the popular park this weekend.

Metcalf said that sometime Saturday night, someone broke a window of at least one car parked in the Appalachian Trail head’s newly enlarged and paved lot.

“They also tore up a curb stop and threw it over a bank, then spun up the new turf at the Moose Cave parking area. It’s discouraging,” Metcalf said late Monday afternoon.

Park Ranger Matt Hodgdon discovered the damage Sunday morning and notified the Oxford County Sheriff’s Department, which is handling the investigation, Metcalf said.

He wasn’t aware what the damages were to the car with the shattered window, because it had been driven from the scene before Hodgdon arrived.
