LEEDS – More than 1,000 people lost power for more than an hour Tuesday after a valve broke on a Leeds Junction Road pole. Homes in Greene, Wales and Monmouth were also affected by the outage.

Power stopped at 1:31 p.m. and was restored at 2:50 p.m..

Typically, a broken valve would not have caused such a widespread outage, a spokesman from Central Maine Power said. However, the break occurred near a substation.
