1920 – 2003

MECHANIC FALLS – Clifford H. Strout, 83, of Mechanic Falls died Wednesday, Aug. 6, at his home.

Born in Poland, July 10, 1920, the son of Curtis C. and Hazel Felker Strout, he was Valedictorian of the graduating class of 1938 at Mechanic Falls High School. He also attended the Auburn Maine School of Commerce.

He had been employed at Carman Thompson Co. in Lewiston for over 40 years. He faithfully served his country for four years in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in the U.S., England and France as a staff sergeant in the medical corp.

He was a member of the Pleasant Street Baptist Church for over 65 years, serving as church collector for over 40 years.

In recent years he attended the First Congregational Church of Mechanic Falls. He was a member of the Tyrian Lodge 73 AF & AM since 1946 and was a past master of that lodge. He was past district deputy of the 23rd Masonic District, past high priest of St. Andrews Royal Arch Chapter 51, past grand steward of the Royal Arch Chapter of Maine, past thrice potent master of Lewiston Lodge of Perfection, past secretary and treasurer of the Scottish Rite Bodies of the Valley of the Androscoggin. where he received the Meritorious Service Award and the Honorary 33rd Degree in the Scottish Rites.

He was past worthy patron of Dwinal Chapter 28, Order of the Eastern Star. He was also a member of the Maine Consistory of Portland since 1947 and the Kora Shrine Temple in Lewiston.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Alverna Weld Strout of Mechanic Falls; his daughter, Marcia and her roommate, Cheryl Burns of Auburn; his sister, Helen Higgins of Auburn; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; two sisters, Maude Pike and Mildred Verrill; and a brother, Clayton Strout.
