DIXFIELD – Two British semipro soccer players from England have spent a week in Dixfield holding a soccer camp for seventh- through 12th-grade boys and girls.

Dirigo soccer coach Art Chamberlin was delighted with the turnout of 23 students, all from Dirigo. He was very pleased with Robbie Woodall and Eddie So from England, who he was able to get through Challenger Sports.

Chamberlin said summer camp always pays off in the fall for his players, and, he said, “These coaches are great.”

He had not used coaches from Challenger before this summer. Though the camp participants have paid for the coaches through their camp fees this year, he hopes to get sponsors in the future.

Woodall and So will be staying in different parts of New England for nine weeks holding soccer camps before returning to England. Woodall lives in Shrewsbury, England, and attends the University of Gloucestershire. So lives in New Castle and attends the University of New Castle in Leeds.

They both say they like Maine. So said everything is bigger in the United States citing examples of food portions, cars, stores and open spaces. They both find the culture different here, they said.

They are staying with host families while in the United States.
