1935 – 2003

CALABASH, N.C. – Russell H. Jack Jr., 67, died at home on Aug. 15 after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Lewiston on Sept. 13, 1935, the son of Janet and Russell H. Jack Sr. He graduated from Weymouth High School in Massachusetts, and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in music at the University of Michigan, and a master’s degree in education at Boston University.

He taught music for many years in the Maine public school system, and at Bates College. A long-time member of the Kora Shrine Band in Lewiston, he also played saxophone and clarinet at the Spruce Point Inn for nearly two decades. He was affiliated with the Maine Music Camp for more than 35 years, conducted the camp’s concert band, and was a frequent guest conductor of Maine state and regional bands. He also served as choir director of Old South Congregational Church in Hallowell, Maine.

After retirement in North Carolina, he joined Seaside United Methodist Church in Calabash. He also played in the North Myrtle Beach Community Band and the Star Dusters Stage Band.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Nancy Davis Jack; and his three children, daughters Laura Farr of Canfield, Ohio, Pamela Jack of Los Angeles, and son Timothy of Montclair, Virg. Survivors also include a sister Patricia Mosher of Pembroke, Mass.; a brother, Ronald of Bowdoinham; and six grandchildren.
