1956 – 2003

JAY – Dwayne I. Burgess, age 47, a resident of Camaro Drive at Curtis Corner in Leeds, died Saturday due to injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident in Jay. He was born in Lewiston on Jan. 21, 1956, the son of Roy and Louise May Ward Burgess.

He attended the Leeds Elementary School, Tripp Middle School and was a 1975 graduate of Leavitt High School. On July 13, 1974, he married Charlene Dunn of Turner. Dwayne worked as a journeyman electrician for Eastern Electric and was a member of IBEW Local #1253 of Augusta where he also served as a former board member. His hobbies included snowmobiling, hunting and auto racing and was a former member of the pit crew for his son-in-law’s stock car racing team. He also enjoyed cars, especially showing his former ’67 Camaro. His present passion was his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He especially enjoyed the quality time he spent with his children and grandson.

He is survived by his wife of Turner; a son, Dwayne Matthew Burgess of Turner; a daughter, Melissa Rowe and her husband Ben of Turner; a grandson, Chase Rowe also of Turner; two brothers, Gerald Burgess and his wife Ginny of Leeds and Reginald Burgess and his wife Sandra also of Leeds; four sisters, Shirley Wing of Leeds, Lula Burgess of Leeds, Lorrie Morris of Leeds and Gloria Bennett of Leeds; his in-laws, Charlie and Ruth Dunn of Leeds; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Bobby Burgess.
