NORWAY – Norway merchants will be featuring goods and gift certificates on Friday in the Norway Business Association annual auction.

Joe Cummings, past three-time NBA president, said the auction has been continuous for the past 10 years.

It is the biggest fund-raiser for the association and helps fund other activities.

“We donate a great portion of the proceeds to charity,” Cummings said. “We’ve given to Christmas for Kids, donated to area reading programs, sponsored the children’s Easter egg hunt at the firehouse and helped other local charities.”

He said usually the auction raises from $900 to $1,500.

“We have a loyal crowd and loyal following,” he said.

Cummings lauded some of the items up for auction this year. He noted that Paul Brook of Woodman’s Sporting Goods has already donated a rifle that is expected to generate some bidding interest.

“Da Zone usually donates something highly sought after,” Cummings said. “We usually have 100 items to choose from including gift certificates from area businesses.”

Western Auto proprietor Frank Shorey will be the auctioneer.

The auction will start at 6 p.m. in the parking lot next to L.F. Pike & Son clothing store on Main Street.
