PORTLAND – More than 500 national policy experts and criminal justice professionals will gather for the 10th National Workshop on Adult and Juvenile Female Offenders Sept. 6 – 10 at the Holiday Inn by the Bay. This will be the first time the workshop has been held in Maine.
The conference is co-sponsored by the Maine Department of Corrections and the National Association of Programs for Female Offenders.
Maine Chief Justice Leigh Saufley will welcome the attendees. Workshops will address gender responsive approaches, unique needs of female offenders, trauma and victimization, substance abuse and re-entry into the community.
Dr. Lyn Mikel Brown of Colby College will present her new book, “Girlfighting,” in a Sunday afternoon intensive workshop.
The conference is open to criminal justice professionals, correctional personnel, nonprofit social service providers, therapists, law enforcement, prosecutors and defense attorneys.
